Real Madrid star, Kylian Mbappe injured at Club World Cup


Real Madrid superstar, Kylian Mbappe has been hospitalised at the Club World Cup with his participation in the tournament now at risk.

 

Mbappe had missed Real Madrid's opening match of the tournament on Wednesday due to an illness.

 

An update from the club on Thursday confirmed Mbappe has been admitted to hospital with Gastroenteritis, a stomach bug characterised by diarrhoea and vomiting.

 

'Our player Kylian Mbappe is suffering from an acute case of gastroenteritis and has been admitted to hospital in order to undergo a series of tests and follow the appropriate course of treatment.' a statement read.

 

Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso had been asked about Mbappe's condition following their 1-1 draw against Al-Hilal.

 

Alonso was cautious in predicting whether Mbappe would be available for their second group match on Sunday 

 

'We´ll have to see how he feels,' Alonso said.

 

'The last day he went through significant viral issues, so we´ll have to wait and assess closer to the game.'

 

Real Madrid will face Mexican side Pachuca in their second match of the tournament, with Alonso hoping for an improved performance.

 

Los Blancos will then face Red Bull Salzburg in their final group match on June 26.

FIFA has appointed a team of South African match officials to oversee the Super Eagles’ World Cup playoff semi-final against Gabon, a decision that has sparked backlash among Nigerian fans.   Nigeria will face Gabon on November 13 in Morocco in one of two African playoff semi-finals. Iran fires 10 missiles at two US bases in Qatar and Iraq in retaliation for Trump's bombing

Iran launched multiple missiles toward US bases in Qatar and Iraq in response to President Donald Trump's bombing of nuclear labs over the weekend.  It was reported that Iran  launched at least 10 missiles at the United States' biggest base in the Middle East and another in Iraq.   Explosions were heard in the skies over Doha, the capital of Qatar. The Al-Udeid Air Base is located near Doha.   Shortly after the attack, the Gulf nation of Bahrain which is home to the U.S. 5th Fleet headquarters temporarily suspended flights in its airspace, which is similar to what Qatar did shortly before it was hit.   Qatar condemned the attack on Al Udeid Air Base attack but said it successfully intercepted the missiles and no casualties were reported.
