ICPC interrogates Lagos council chairman over the alleged fund diversion

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed the interrogation of Muibi Folawiyo, Chairman of the Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, over allegations of extensive financial misconduct.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, July 2, ICPC spokesperson Demola Bakare said the council chairman is under investigation for multiple offences, including the alleged theft of public funds, diversion of government resources for personal gain, and circumventing official administrative procedures.

“He was arrested at the council secretariat on 42 Broad Street, Lagos, after repeatedly ignoring invitations which he acknowledged,” Bakare said.

According to the ICPC, the summon was carried out by operatives from the commission’s headquarters in Abuja. “He is currently in our custody. He was arrested by a team from the ICPC Headquarters for the aforementioned reasons but has since been granted administrative bail,” Bakare added. “He is expected to report back today as the investigation continues.”

The commission has not yet disclosed further details regarding the specific amounts involved or additional individuals who may be implicated. The investigation remains ongoing.
