Donald Trump recalling 48 ambassadors from Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and South America


The Trump administration is recalling dozens of ambassadors from posts around the world. 

48 envoys were removed from positions in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Central and South America. 

This follows an initial mass firing of appointees of former President Joe Biden in the early months of President Trump’s second term. 

“This is a standard process in any administration,” a senior State Department official told The Post Monday, Dec. 22. 

“An ambassador is a personal representative of the president, and it is the president’s right to ensure that he has individuals in these countries who advance the America First agenda.” 

The latest recalls, first reported by Washington Post columnist Josh Rogin, would leave the US without envoys in key global hotspots — including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Nigeria, Rwanda, Somalia and South Sudan in Africa; Armenia, Lithuania, North Macedonia and Slovakia in Europe; as well as Yemen in the Middle East. 

Meanwhile, the administration has yet to nominate permanent ambassadors to key allies and partners, including Australia, Germany, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea.

Nigerians cry out after South African referees were appointed to officiate Nigeria's World Cup play-off match

FIFA has appointed a team of South African match officials to oversee the Super Eagles’ World Cup playoff semi-final against Gabon, a decision that has sparked backlash among Nigerian fans.   Nigeria will face Gabon on November 13 in Morocco in one of two African playoff semi-finals. The winner will advance to the final, where they will meet either Congo DR or Cameroon for Africa’s sole spot in the intercontinental playoff.   South Africa’s Tom Abongile has been named centre referee for the Nigeria–Gabon clash. His compatriot Zakhele Siwela will serve as one of the assistant referees, while Akhona Makalima will oversee the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). Iran fires 10 missiles at two US bases in Qatar and Iraq in retaliation for Trump's bombing

Iran launched multiple missiles toward US bases in Qatar and Iraq in response to President Donald Trump's bombing of nuclear labs over the weekend.  It was reported that Iran  launched at least 10 missiles at the United States' biggest base in the Middle East and another in Iraq.   Explosions were heard in the skies over Doha, the capital of Qatar. The Al-Udeid Air Base is located near Doha.   Shortly after the attack, the Gulf nation of Bahrain which is home to the U.S. 5th Fleet headquarters temporarily suspended flights in its airspace, which is similar to what Qatar did shortly before it was hit.   Qatar condemned the attack on Al Udeid Air Base attack but said it successfully intercepted the missiles and no casualties were reported.
